Help keep the town nice and tidy

Evesham Editorial 29th Jun, 2018   0

A RALLYING call has been issued to local residents to help keep Evesham tidy and join in the latest litter pick organised by a popular town group.

Members of the Evesham Town Anti-Litter Group will meet tomorrow at 10.30am over Workman Bridge on the corner of Bridge Street and Mortimer’s Quay.

The group was formed in November 2016 in response the Evesham Town Plan after 1,200 residents responded to a survey about the town and many commented on the increase in litter and grot spots, damaging the beauty of the town.

As a result, the group of anti-litter volunteers have come together to tackle the issue.

Over the course of the past two years, the group have been successful in picking 350 black bags from 11 problem areas in Evesham.

This, backed by the vast support of the people of the town, has led to the scheme gaining impressive momentum.

Coun Gerry O’Donnell, member of the Town Plan Anti-Litter Group said: “I’m happy to have seen the progress of the group over the past two years and I’m glad to see they’re still working hard to fulfil their aims and the wishes of the townspeople.”

“Seeing the town’s cleanliness improve and the number of grot spots reduce has been immensely satisfying to see. I am also encouraged that Wychavon District Council are now developing an anti-litter campaign and will work in partnership with our Evesham group.”

Anyone interested in helping to improve the town’s cleanliness can become part of the litter pickers. All litter picking equipment will be provided, including a vest, gloves and bin bags.

For those who cannot join on the day but still want to get involved, the group are encouraging local residents to organise their own pick closer to home with friends and the Evesham Town Plan Anti-Litter Group will happily bring along supplies.
