LABOUR’s former General Election candidate will be back on the campaign trail in the spring after she was chosen by local party members to fight the Evesham North and West seat in the County Council elections in May.
Helen Russell will be joined on the campaign trail will be Mary Campbell from Badsey, local business owner and activist, who was selected for her local seat of the Littletons.
Helen, an Evesham resident, works for the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy as a trade union training officer, having previously worked for other trade unions and professional bodies.
She is even more widely known for her sporting achievements, having won an array of international titles in multi-sport, including being crowned world champion in quadrathlon and duathlon.
She combines her sporting activity with extensive charity fund-raising, including for Air Ambulance and Cure Leukaemia.
“Worcestershire County Council needs a new start and an injection of fresh ideas. I would be truly honoured to be a councillor in the town I call home,” she said.
Mary has lived and worked locally for 20 years and runs a business in Blackminster. She was chair of Badsey and Aldington Parish Council for seven years, helping to equip the recreation ground play area and making decision-making more efficient and open.
She promised to use her extensive experience of local and national campaigning and said: “I am not afraid to speak out to support local services and residents, and will encourage community participation in all important decisions.
