THE WORLD of local news reporting will be explored tonight at the monthly meeting of the Vale of Evesham Civic Society (VECS).
Evesham Observer journalist Lise Evans will be talking about her work covering the variety of stories in the Vale, in light of the Government’s recently published local media strategy, which seeks to support news provision in so-called ‘news deserts’.
Lise, who was the recipient of a special award for community journalism at last November’s Love Evesham awards, will detail why she believes local journalism is vital for local democracy in its capacity to hold power to account and ask questions, expose wrongdoing, and be a trusted source of information.
Since starting at the paper in May 2024, Lise has covered topics such as the major issues affecting Evesham’s town centre heritage buildings, major community events and festivals, as well as the day-to-day crime stories.
She will give behind-the-scenes insight into how local journalism operates and what a reporter looks for in the never-ending quest to fill the paper with news stories.
The meeting starts at 7.30pm at Ecgwin’s Club, 117 High Street, and Lise’s talk will follow the club’s annual AGM at 8pm.
Admission is free and all are welcome.
