A DEDICATED Evesham Royal Marine cadet has completed his 20th qualification in just five years since signing up as a Sea Cadet in 2013.
Lance Corporal Harrison Gilliland joined the Evesham Unit of the Sea Cadet Corps before he later transferred to the Royal Marines Cadets Detachment in late 2014.
Since joining the organisation, Harrison has shown great enthusiasm for the activities that can be undertaken and has completed twenty qualifications. These range from basic training such as Water Safety and Swimming Test, to completing an offshore sailing voyage.
He has also earned his Royal Marines Cadet 1st Class, Basic Piping, Class 3 Cook/Steward, Offshore Power Boat Grade 1, Basic Rock Climbing, Basic Communications Information Systems, Marine Engineering Class 2, Basic Navigation, Royal Yachting Association Powerboat Coastal Level 2 and Offshore Competent Crew to name just some of his achievements.
His most recent qualification was gained this month whilst attending a course at Milford Haven with other cadets from Evesham, when he earned a rowing qualification.
Reflecting on the past five years, Lance Corporal Gilliland said: “Joining Sea Cadets then transferring to Royal Marines Cadets has given me great opportunities. I have achieved far more than I thought was possible”
Evesham Royal Marines Cadets Detachment meets on Mondays between 7 pm and 9.30pm, and Thursdays between 7 pm and 9 pm, at the Sea Cadet Headquarters on Shinehill Lane in South Littleton and is currently open for enrolment by both cadets and staff.
