Hall plans set for viewing

AMBITIOUS proposals for a new community hall for the town are set to go on show with Pershore residents being asked to make suggestions for the name of the new venue.

An exhibition will be held at the town hall on the High Street on Thursday (September 20) from 10am to 8pm.

The Observer reported last month on the £190,000 in New Homes Bonus cash given to the town council by Wychavon chiefs for the proposed new hall off Defford Road.

If approved by district planning chiefs, the new hall will seat up to 150 people and provide a vital local lifeline for town groups and clubs.

The proposals were backed by residents in a consultation last year but have been heavily criticised by a former Mayor of Pershore, Coun Charles Tucker.

He claimed the project had no legitimacy despite a majority of town councillors supporting the scheme and has called for council chiefs to revisit plans for a second floor for the town hall on the High Street.

However, current Mayor Coun Chris Parsons has called for all councillors to come together and support the ambitions proposals.
