A MANAGER at Worcestershire County Council has been selected as the Green Party’s candidate vying to become Pershore’s next MP.
Natalie McVey, the Service Lead for Young People, Libraries, Learning and Arts, will contest the West Worcestershire seat in the General Election on Thursday, June 8.
She is no stranger to standing in elections as at the last election in 2015 Natalie stood for the Greens in the Wyre Forest.
Natalie, who has lived in the Malvern Hills area for the past two years, has said she will campaign on protecting local health, social care and mental health services, improving the accessibility of further education, and securing a second referendum on the Brexit deal.
The Green Party finished in last place in West Worcestershire in the 2015 General Election, even after increasing their share of the vote by more than 5 per cent.
On Thursday June, 8 the Green Party candidate will go up against Harriett Baldwin for the Conservatives, Labour Party candidate Samantha Charles and Liberal Democrat candidate Edward McMillan-Scott. UKIP is yet to announce a candidate.
Speaking to the Observer, Natalie said: “My work as Service Lead for Young People involves managing a number of high profile projects in the West Midlands Region, notably organising the annual Young Poet Laureate Competition, engaging young people in projects and activities including volunteering to support The Summer Reading Challenge, and embedding Autism Friendly Libraries standards, helping to make local libraries inclusive and accessible for all.
“I pilot and develop events and activities that enable young people to learn new skills, and develop confidence, by engaging in arts and volunteering.
“The main priorities for my campaign are protecting local health, social-care, and mental health services, improving the accessibility of further education for all, and securing a second referendum on membership of the EU. It’s not just the young we need to stand up for; I believe these are the best way to stand up for all people and jobs in our local area.”
