Grants available to improve life chances of most disadvantaged

Evesham Editorial 2nd Nov, 2018   0

SCHOOLS, nurseries and voluntary groups across Evesham and Pershore are being invited to apply for a new fund to help improve the life chances of the district’s most disadvantaged young people.

Wychavon is making grants of between £250 and £1,000 available to fund projects or schemes aimed at improving the life chances of children receiving Free School Meals, but without stigmatising or isolating them.

Examples of projects which could be funded include providing positive activities for children and young people in or out of school hours, breakfast or homework clubs and schemes to improve attainment, pupil confidence or mental wellbeing.

To be successful applicants will be expected to demonstrate the number of children being supported, the total cost and length of the project and the expected impact it will have.

The fund has been created as part of Wychavon’s Social Mobility Programme and commitment to improving the health, aspirations and life chances of those most in need. Jack Hegarty, Managing Director of Wychavon, said:  “We want every child growing up in Wychavon to have the opportunity to achieve their full potential. The work we have done so far with schools and community groups has shown small amounts of money can make a huge difference.

“That’s why we’re launching this fund and I would encourage schools, nurseries and voluntary groups to apply and see how we can work together to improve the life chances of some of the most disadvantaged young people in the district.”

Applications must be made online at www.wychavon.gov.uk/wychavon-social-mobility-grant by January 31.
