THE LONG-SERVING patron of an Evesham charity has been made an MBE in the New Year’s Honours list 2019 for his charity work and music.
Guitarist and composer Gordon Giltrap has been the patron of the Tracy Sollis Leukaemia Trust since it was officially founded in 1998.
The musician has given freely of his time and support towards the Trust over the many years by performing numerous concerts, donating goods and attending special events.
Trust founder Sue Sollis said: “I am absolutely thrilled by the news. The award is well-earned”.
Gordon’s involvement goes right back to 1994 when Tracy Sollis was fighting a battle against leukaemia. He would regularly visit Birmingham Children’s Hospital, where she was treated, and bring his guitar along to play on the ward and was inspired by Tracy’s battle against the disease.
Tracy tragically lost her battle following a failed bone marrow transplant. Mum Sue founded the Trust to help increase the success rate of transplants and to further research.
The Trust also provides complementary therapy for patients. Sue was awarded a BEM on the previous New Year’s Honours list in 2018.
