Golden Trail given vital revamp

ESSENTIAL access improvements to a popular section of trail alongside Worcestershire’s iconic Broadway Tower have been made.

Worcestershire County Council recently worked alongside the Cotswold National Landscape to make some much needed enhancements to a section of the Cotswold Way National Trail.

Improvements included new surfacing along 120 metres of trail and the installation of a robust access gate.

The project was funded by an ‘Access for All’ Defra grant awarded to the Cotswold National Landscape team, with Worcestershire County Council providing match funding.

Coun Mike Rouse, council cabinet member for Highways and Transport said: “This trail has grown in popularity over the last 50 years, and I am delighted to see that we have been able to significantly improve this section with partners. This part of the route is such an important feature of the Worcestershire landscape, and we would like as many people as possible to be able to enjoy it.

“It is hugely important for us to make this walking route more accessible to visitors and I am delighted that the improvements can enable a greater audience to enjoy and explore this section of the route and all it has to offer.

“The refurbished trail has been referred to as the ‘Golden Trail’ as it is surfaced with yellow Cotswold stone, native to the area.”

Worcestershire County Council’s role is to help preserve and protect the county’s environment for future generations. The council has now agreed to invest in environmental measures that protect our natural environment, enhance our biodiversity and reduce our carbon footprint.
