WORKERS at Severn Waste Services have begun balloting for strike action after a pay rise request was denied by their employer.
GMB Union, who represent some of the staff, announced the plans for a vote on strike action on Thursday, August 24.
The vote comes after union members’ request for a £1.50 an hour pay rise was rejected by Severn Waste Services management.
Severn Waste Services provide all recycling and waste processing services to Worcestershire and Herefordshire Councils.
Justine Jones, GMB Organiser, said: “Severn Waste Services have time and time again failed to recognise the value of the work our members do.
“Our members are reporting being pushed to the breadline by the companies instance of ignoring worker demands for higher pay.
“Strike action could risk waste and recycling facilities being forced to shut their doors, with potentially no other choice than to turn to already creaking local incinerators.
“Our door is open, but this is an outcome Severn Waste Services must act urgently to avoid.”
