CHILDREN’S speech and language therapy services in Worcestershire have been awarded a national ‘Giving Voice Award’ by The Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).
The Worcestershire service, run by Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust provides support for more than 6,500 children and young people who may experience difficulties with their speech, language, communication or swallowing.
The team were awarded a ‘Giving Voice Award’ earlier this month, at a ceremony which celebrates organisations and individuals who have campaigned to highlight how speech and language therapy transforms lives.
Winners are chosen based on their valuable contributions to improving the lives of people with communication and/or swallowing needs.
Service manager Emma Jordan said: “We are very proud to receive this award in recognition of our outstanding support of the ‘Bercow: 10 Years On’ report.
“Our approach is having a positive, measurable impact on the development of children’s speech, language and communication skills in Worcestershire.
“Thank you for recognising what we have achieved so far”.
Nationally, more than 1.4 million children and young people have speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), with language disorders being one of the most common disorders of childhood.
If you are concerned about your child’s speech, language, communication or feeding/swallowing -advice and referral can be made through your GP, Health Visitor, School Nurse or other professionals who may be involved with your child. Schools, Nurseries and other child care settings can also refer on parent’s behalf.
