RETAIL chiefs at The Valley have scrummed down to show their support for Evesham Rugby Club’s family fun day.
Players and staff at the historic Vale club will open their doors on Sunday (September 8) from 10.30am to 3pm to bring the community together in a day filled with activity.
The free event will offer a fantastic variety of entertainment and activities including rugby try outs with coaching sessions for ages under 7 to under 16 and colts, a BBQ, a bar, and a tombola.
Youngsters will be suitably entertained with bouncy castles, an ice cream van, and a sweet stall while everyone will be able to watch Evesham Rugby Club’s colts team play against Stafford Colts at 2pm.
Chris Houghton, a coach at Evesham Rugby Club said: “We’re really grateful for The Valley Evesham’s generous cash donation which will support the family fun day and we hope to work in partnership long-term.
“Sport and recreation clubs are often at the hub of community life, and the team at The Valley Evesham really understands this.”
The 138-year-old club, whose first team plays in the Midlands Division – Midlands 2 West (South), has a rich sporting history and work with disability, local community and youth groups.
Phil Maclean, marketing director at The Valley Evesham said: “A “sport for all” mentality underpins grassroots sport: the focus on encouraging sporting participation on a broader scale within the community.
“Investing in grassroots sport also creates opportunities and builds communities. Not only is sport widely recognised as a tool to encourage a more active and healthy lifestyle, but it also contributes to creating a more inclusive and close-knit community.
“This is why supporting Evesham Rugby Club is so important to us,” he added.
