“THE flu season has now started” – that’s the message from Dr Jamie Lopez Bernal of Public Health England who is urging local people get their flu vaccine as soon as possible.
“Vaccination uptake in toddlers is lower than we would hope for at this point in the year due to previous delays in delivery of the vaccine, which are now resolved,” he added.
“If you have children aged two to three go to your GP to get them vaccinated now.”
Uptake among two year-olds is 25.5 per cent this year compared to 34.9 per cent this time last year and among three year-olds it is 24.4 per cent compared to 35.7 per cent this time last year.
Current evidence suggests that the main circulating strain of flu is well matched to this year’s vaccine.
On average 8,000 people a year die because of flu.
