Get in touch for rugby taster sessions

Evesham Editorial 8th Nov, 2021   0

LADIES from Pinvin are the first to be enjoying free ladies Touch Rugby tasters in their village, thanks to Pershore Rugby’s new programme taking the non-contact team sport out into the local community.

The hour-long ‘have a go’ sessions from 11am every Saturday until November 20 are open to any ladies or girls, from 13 upwards and are being held at Pinvin playing fields. IN the New Year sessions will be offered also to other local villages, including Peopleton, Fladbury and Drakes Broughton.

No experience is necessary, since the non-contact Touch sessions teach the basics in ball handling skills, running lines of attack, how to defend, and will get everyone playing in simple games from the outset. The sessions are designed to be a good introduction to any type of rugby that ladies might like to play – either non-contact Touch, or ladies 15-a-side ladies Rugby Union if they wish.

Fizz Bewley, chair of Pershore Touch, will be coaching the fully Covid-compliant Touch sessions and she said: “So many women say to me that they would love to have a go at rugby, but they don’t want to get hurt… well Touch is a great way to have a go at rugby without the contact, but with all of the fun of passing and running to score tries. It’s a great social, team sport and a brilliant way to get fit and make friends out in the fresh air.”

Anyone wanting to join in the Pinvin sessions can simply turn up on the day, or if they want further information, telephone or text Fizz on 07791 546541
