HUNDREDS of students from across the Vale finally found out their GCSE results yesterday after a nervous wait.

This year’s cohort of students at Prince Henry’s High School, Pershore High School and The De Montfort School were the first to be graded under the new 9 to 1 system in English Language, English Literature and Maths.

Celebrations were in order for students and staff at Prince Henry’s as 72 per cent of pupils gained five or more GCSEs at A* to C – the school’s best ever result. 99 per cent of students achieved five or more A* to G grades.

The Victoria Avenue school’s top performer was Talia Webby who achieved an amazing eight A* grades, two grade eights and one grade nine.

Headteacher Dr Tony Evans, said: “They have been a remarkable, motivated and committed group of young people who thoroughly deserve the outstanding academic success they have achieved.

“These exceptional GCSE results are a tribute to the incredible hard work and dedication of the students, staff, parents and the governing body. I am extremely proud of all of our students and I offer my sincerest congratulations to everyone concerned.”

Pershore High School saw 71 per cent of its students achieve five or more GCSEs, including English and Maths, at grade four/C and higher.

Headteacher Clive Corbett said: “This is a tribute both to their efforts and to the support and guidance offered by our magnificent staff.

“Behind the headline statistics lie numerous individual success stories.

“The key measure of achievement is whether or not students have made progress against their own prior attainment and that is the case for so many of them.

” May I offer my best wishes to all of our youngsters, whatever future direction they now take.”

Notable success at the De Montfort School included Molly Crump, Alice Smith, Archie Verhoest, Kathryn Bayliss, Jenny Francis, Heather Herborn, Louis Kent and Paige Sandalls who all achieved 10 or more GCSE grades at A* to C including English and Maths at grade five or above.

Headteacher Guy Nichols said: “Congratulations to all of our students on their results, we are very pleased with them but more importantly the hard work and dedication that they have shown throughout their time at the school.

“So many students have achieved fantastic results and this is a reflection of their hard work and dedication but also that of the staff, with the support of their parents.”
