AN EVESHAM woman has committed to walking 8,000 steps every day for a month to raise funds for Endometriosis UK.
Emma Bell’s ‘Walk for Endo’ fundraiser will see her take on the daily steps challenge to represent the eight year average wait for an endometriosis diagnosis.
Emma, who lives in Bromsgrove after moving from Evesham, was recently diagnosed with endometriosis herself and hopes to raise awareness of the condition and help to raise vital funds to support those living with the condition.
Endometriosis is a condition which causes tissue similar to uterus lining to grow outside of the uterus and for Emma, it can cause extreme fatigue, numbness in her legs, lower back and swelling and cramping in her stomach.
She explained how the condition can make it difficult to perform everyday tasks.
Emma said: “It’s indescribable how painful and debilitating Endometriosis can be. When I was told that I had Endometriosis and was being referred to a specialist, it was a massive weight off my shoulders.
“Although it wasn’t exactly the best news, I was relieved that there might now be some light at the end of the tunnel after years of GP appointments, pain and discomfort.”
Her Walk for Endo challenge started on July 1 as she followed the Evesham Riverside Walk and will conclude on July 31. On her challenge days she regularly walks routes in Bromsgrove, Worcester and Evesham.
She added: “Working in Marketing I have quite a sedentary role so I knew that doing 8,000 steps a day would be a challenge.
“I am so grateful for everyone that has taken the time to make a Donation via my JustGiving page.
“Not only will these Donations go towards the running of local support groups and helplines but also towards raising awareness of this condition.
“With a greater understanding, I hope those currently experiencing symptoms will be able to get the help and support they need.”
So far, at the time of writing, Emma’s fundraiser has collected over £500 for Endometriosis UK.
