Fund-raising mum’s fury at stolen event banners

A DISTRAUGHT mum has slammed ‘heartless thieves’ who stole two banners advertising a charity craft event from the roadside in Evesham and Broadway.

Craft event organiser Mandy Edwards and her family put up banners advertising the fund-raiser on November 12 on the A46 near Evesham United’s football ground and near the A44 roundabout towards Broadway last Monday (October 17).

But within four hours, the banner on the A46 had disappeared while the second banner had disappeared by Friday (October 21).

The craft event is being held on Saturday, November 12 at Leedons Park, Childswickham to raise money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Mandy’s daughter Bethan, 12, has a rare life-limiting heart condition called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome which means that she only has half a heart.

“Beth has had several open heart surgeries at the hospital and the craft event which I have organised for the last six years is my way of showing my gratitude for everything that the staff do at the hospital.”

“Last year we put up home-made banners for the event. We put them in the same positions and they were left untouched for the three weeks leading to the event.

“In fact several people had commented that they only knew about the craft fair by reading the banners.

“This year we thought we’d posh them up and have professional one made and this was the result!

“That’s £60 down the drain. I am devastated that people would be so heartless,” she added.

Mandy said the family had reported the incidents to the highways department at Worcestershire County Council and Wychavon District Council but both said they were not responsible for the removal of the banners.

Mandy’s husband, Bryan, said: “I couldn’t believe it when I drove past on Monday afternoon to see that the A46 banner had gone.

“My father in law and I braved the elements on Monday morning to put the banners in place,” he added.

Anyone with information on the disappearing banners can call Mandy on 01386 761575.
