A VALE Alzheimer’s fund-raising group celebrated a successful year of collecting cash during a coffee morning held at Richmond Villages, Wood Norton.
The Alzheimer’s Research UK Evesham and Pershore Fund-raising Group was launched in July 2018 and has so far raised an impressive £5,636. The charity group has held a series of events and activities throughout the year to raise funds with all proceeds going directly to Alzheimer’s Research UK, in support of the charity’s vital work.
Alzheimer’s Research UK is the nation’s largest dementia research charity dedicated to making life-changing breakthroughs in diagnosis, prevention, treatment and cure. There are 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK, and this number is expected to rise to more than one million by 2025.
The charity’s regional fund-raising officer, Zoe Baggott, said: “We’re so grateful to Richmond Villages for supporting the Alzheimer’s Research UK Evesham and Pershore District Fund-raising Group and for throwing such a wonderful celebration to mark the group’s first anniversary.
“One in three people over 65 in the UK will die with some form of dementia, so the fundraising efforts of groups such as this, are really helping us work toward our mission of bringing about the first life-changing dementia treatment by 2025.”
Village manager Paul Brady said: “I’m thrilled we have been able to support the Alzheimer’s Research UK Evesham and Pershore District Fundraising Group.
“As a result of hosting the celebration of its first year raising money and importantly awareness within the community, we have managed to raise £1116 which has pushed their total over the £5,000 mark.
“The work they are doing is really making a difference to the lives of people locally and across the UK that are living with dementia – a cause very close to our hearts.”
