A SIX-YEAR-OLD Vale golfer is preparing to tee-off on the international stage for a second year running when he represents the UK in the US Kids World Golf Championships.

Louis Rickett from Harvington, near Evesham, will take to the green in Pinehurst, North Carolina from Thursday, August 4 to Saturday, August 6, after finishing seventh at the European Junior Golf Championships in Scotland in June.

Last year Louis reached the IMG World Junior Golf Championships in San Diego, a prestigious tournament which attracts more than 50 golfers from around the world, including past winners Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.

After finishing 22nd, Louis’ fairway to success led him to being crowned ‘BBC Newcomer of the Year’ at the Herefordshire and Worcestershire 2015 Sports Awards, as well as being selected to join the county under 12 squad – as the youngest player ever selected.

To cover the costs of the trip, a fund-raising golf day is being held The Vale Golf and Country Club in Bishampton on Saturday, October 1.

Kirsty Rickett, Louis’ mum said: “We’ve currently funded all of Louis’ trips, but as you can imagine its getting expensive to keep up with how well he is doing.

“So the funds raised will go towards the US competition fees and travel, meaning we can continue to fund his coaching, equipment and UK tournament fees.”
