A CELEBRATION of Ukranian life and a plea for help for the war-torn country raised more than £1,000 for the Disasters Emergency Committee fund for Ukraine.
Caring members of the Abbots Morton Village Hall committee including Sarah Dykes were spurred into action after hearing the story of the conflict from Ukrainian Anastasia Danitoiu, a beautician in Evesham’s Vine Street.
In addition to the four-figure sum, Tuesday’s (March 22) coffee morning saw a large amount of medical supplies and toiletries donated.
Anastasia and her friend, Kateryna Nester, brought Ukrainian –style cakes to the packed coffee morning.
“We’re very grateful to have such a lovely community like this. I believe faith and support are the strongest weapon we have and hopefully very soon we will celebrate victory,” she said.
Anastasia continues to welcome donations of medical supplies and toiletries at Bretforton Manor which are taken each week to Ukraine by lorry.
