A FAMILY left distraught at the theft of an honesty box and stock from their five-year-old son’s fledgling business have launched a major fund-raising bid for Acorns Children’s Hospice.

Little Harry Clare was targeted by heartless thieves on Tuesday (July 14) who stole cash and stock from his stall near Rosebud Meadow in Malvern. The budding entrepreneur sells chicken eggs near his family’s business and asks for passers-by to leave money in a pot in exchange for a box of six eggs.

The cold-hearted raid provoked a furious reaction from across the country after leading Worcestershire auctioneer Philip Serrell highlighted young Harry’s misfortune on Twitter on Tuesday evening.

“They will probably be too ashamed to return either but if they get to read this I hope it costs them a few nights sleep,” he wrote.

After being overwhelmed by the reaction, Harry’s family have now launched a bid to turn a negative into a positive by raising cash for much-loved hospice.

Writing on JustGiving, Harry’s proud mum Rosie said: “Many of you will have read or heard the story of Harry and his honesty box in the news.

“Harry would be really grateful if you would donate a few penny’s to Acorns Children’s Hospice in lieu of his stolen honesty box.

“Acorns Children’s Hospice is a place dear to our hearts where we visit the children, families and staff with our miniature pony MooMoo,” she added.

A four-figure sum has already been raised for the hospice while Harry’s story has continued to attract the attention across the globe.

Grand Tour and Who Wants to be a Millionaire host Jeremy Clarkson has offered to replace everything Harry lost with stock from his Diddly Squat farm shop.

“I will make good all that was lost. Please get in touch. And then let’s feed the thieves into a combine,” the outspoken presenter tweeted.

Rev Richard Coles also offered his support to the brave youngster and said: “Please wish Harry the best, and reassure him that despite the occasional disappointment, most people will want to be customers rather than robbers.”
