Fund-raising at art of appeal

A HOSPICE has enlisted the help of celebrities and artists for a new fund-raising project taking place this autumn.

Famous names including former English international cricketer Phil Tufnell and former Prime Minister Theresa May have submitted pieces for the Hospice HeArt Appeal, to be held by St Richard’s Hospice in October.

Around 50 framed pieces will be displayed at the Royal Porcelain Works, Severn Street, Worcester, from Saturday, October 5 to 6 – followed by a live auction in which art-lovers can bid to take home their favourite piece.

Kelly Johns, fund-raiser at St Richard’s Hospice, said: “This is a very exciting new project for us here at St Richard’s – and we can’t wait to share it with our community.

“We have been blown-away by the creativity and skill of the artists submitting work for the display and auction. There is fantastic variety too – from mosaic, to watercolour and simple doodles.

“Each piece is beautiful and will be a great treasure for whoever is lucky enough to win it at auction.

“We hope to bring colour and creativity into the lives of our supporters, while helping fund our care to patients, loved ones and bereaved people.”

Artists on board with the project, include illustrator and author Nick Sharratt, Carrie Reichardt, Howard Flanagan and David Birtwhistle – alongside illustrator and writer David McKee, artist Alison Lapper and TV presenter and Gogglebox star Kate Bottley.

Droitwich-based artist Rosie Philpott is taking part in the project and said: “I am thrilled to be part of this project. It is great to know I am using my talents alongside other artists of all styles to add to the colour and creativity. Not only is it fun but it is for a worthwhile cause!”

A number of artists who created giraffes in the hospice’s 2018 Worcester Stands Tall campaign have also submitted work for the project.

The public exhibition will be available to view from 9am to 6pm on Saturday, October 5 and 9am to 1pm on Sunday, October 6.

The auction will take place at the Royal Porcelain Works on Sunday, October 6 from 3pm. All attendees will receive a copy of the brochure ahead of the event.
