‘WEIRD, WACKY and wonderful’ pupils from Blackminster Middle School held a fund-raiser for the specialist unit which is treating their teacher for breast cancer.

Blackminster Middle School classmates Ruby McLennan , Luke Briffett and Caitlyn Pomeroy, held a ‘Wacky Wednesday’ to raise funds for the Worcestershire Breast Unit, after their teacher was diagnosed with the disease in November.

Pupils were invited to come to school in wigs, pink clothes, or with crazy hair, for a minimum donation. They also held a successful bake sale, to bring the total amount raised to £241.90.

The Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven charity provides vital services to women and men from across the county and relies on fund-raising to ensure it can continue to offer invaluable support.

Co-organiser Ruby said: “Wacky Wednesday was a brilliant success, and we loved seeing the school community coming together for a cause that is close to all our hearts.

“Everyone embraced it and we had a great day whilst raising money and showing our support to our teacher.”

The three students handed the cheque over personally to the breast unit’s fund-raising manager Lexi Craigie, before being taken round the facility to see exactly what the money will go towards.

“It was wonderful to meet with Ruby, Caitlyn and Luke, and to show them around the unit they have worked so hard to support,” Lexi said.

“It was a chance to show them just how their fund-raising will help to continue to provide essential services to breast cancer patients. Specifically, the money raised by the school will help fund the complementary therapies which we offer to patients each week.

“I’m so impressed with all the work they put in to the event to make it happen, from coming up with the initial idea, to planning and organising the whole thing themselves.

“The compassion they have shown for their teacher is magnificent, and they are a credit to the school.”
