'Free cakes for all!' - Evesham Market seller 'blown away by stranger's act of kindness'

THE OWNER of a cake stall on Evesham Market said she was ‘blown away’ by an act of kindness on Saturday.

A man visited Racheal Yates’ ‘With Love Bake Some Cakes’ stall and paid for every sweet treat on her stall, telling her to give them away free for the rest of the day.

She told the Observer: “The man had come a couple of times earlier in the week – on his first visit he bought some of the cakes and handed them out to people and on the second he paid for several and told me to give them out to school children at the end of the day.

“Then on Saturday, he paid for everyone I had and told me to ‘give them away until they were gone’.

“He said he had seen lots of people at the stall and we always try and foster some community spirit.

“He also added he had had a good life and wanted to ‘pay something forward’.”

Racheal handed out the cakes throughout the day.

“Some people were a bit sceptical at first but when I explained, they agreed it was a nice thing to do.

“This kind of thing doesn’t happen very often and there’s so much doom and gloom about and you don’t often see kindness like this.

“Nothing like this has ever happened to me before – as well as being a lovely gesture, it was great for me as well because a lot of people came and tried my cakes who would not otherwise have done so.

“It created such a buzz in the market place – everyone was jovial after getting free cakes.”

Chloe Ford is one of the owners of Bluebell Events which runs Evesham Market.

She said: “It was great for Racheal and great for the market.”
