Focus on airing views over road safety in Vale

Rob George 11th Dec, 2018   0

CONCERNED Bishampton residents aired their views on road safety in the village during a meeting with county highways chiefs.

The meeting at Bishampton Village Hall was held as part of Roads Focus, a new joint road safety campaign from Worcestershire County Council and West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion.

Residents put their questions to county highwats chief Coun Alan Amos and representatives of West Mercia Police and the Police and Crime Commissioner’s office.

The community speed watch scheme was high on the agenda with residents sharing their experiences of managing the scheme in the village.

“Roads Focus is all about hearing the views of our residents to make Worcestershire roads safer for everybody and it was great to have so many residents joining us to have their say,” Coun Amos said.

“Hearing the views of local residents is a vital way of helping us to shape our priorities in terms of how we manage highways countywide. We look forward to speaking to many more people during this campaign.”

Roads Focus aims to give residents an opportunity to share their views on Worcestershire roads, whilst also educating motorists on the dangers of distracted driving.

The campaign is focusing on the county’s rural roads network, with Bishampton chosen as one of five villages to host an event during Road Safety Week.

Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner Tracey Onslow said: “I was pleased to see so many residents at the meeting in Bishampton. By holding these events we are giving people an open forum to share their concerns, which we want to hear. If we don’t know what is affecting people then we can’t find a resolution.”

“I hope those who came along found it useful and I look forward to working with the other agencies to help where possible and give communities the support they need in order to play an active part.”
