Flooding closes roads across the Vale as flood warning remains in force

FLOODING is causing disruption across the Vale as roads are closed and motorists are warned not to drive through floodwater following heavy rain on Saturday.

A flood warning for the River Avon in Evesham remains in force as levels peaked at about 3.1 metres this afternoon (Sunday), with the river bursting its banks and flooding surrounding areas.

High river levels have led to Waterside, between Port Street and Cheltenham Road, being shut.

Roads including the Jubilee Bridge at Fladbury, Brooke Lane, Cropthorne, The Green, Charlton and Eckington Bridge have also been closed due to the flooding.

Emergency services are also urging drivers to be careful while driving due to standing water on main roads and rural routes around the Vale.

But, with the Met Office forecasting further persistent rainfall for the next few days, river levels could rise even further.

A boat crew from Evesham Fire Station had to re-moor a pleasure craft along Waterside after a snagged line was dragging the stern of the craft underwater.

Fire crews also rescued two people from a flooded ford on Walcot Lane, Pershore, using rescue sleds and wading poles.
