Flavours tops restaurant vote

AN EVESHAM restaurant has scooped Worcestershire’s Vale and Spa’s favourite restaurant award via a social media campaign.

Flavours, based on the High Street, beat stern competition in the Facebook polls over a number of rounds to win the inaugural competition by 67 per cent of the vote.

The favourite restaurant award, organised by the district council’s tourism brand Worcestershire’s Vale and Spa, saw Facebook followers vote on a series of head-to-head battles to determine the winner after being invited to nominate entrants.

Vincenzo Salerno, chef and owner, said he and his staff were delighted to have been chosen as the area’s favourite and thanked the organisers for putting on the campaign.

“We’ve been amazed by the number of supporters and votes we’ve received. We’ve had people visiting from neighbouring towns and cities as they had seen our success, so it was great for the exposure,” he said.

“We will proudly display the award for all to see and hope to defend our crown next year! We have a really good following on social media, particularly Instagram, so it’s great to see the impact this can have.”

Steve Knight, Marketing and Events Officer at Wychavon District Council, said: “The competition was intended as a bit of fun, but it’s a great way to introduce new businesses to residents and visitors who may not have been aware of them.

Flavour’s win in the restaurant category follows that of The Fleece Inn at Bretforton in the pub category last summer.

“We initially intended to run a one-off to coincide with the football World Cup that had gripped the nation. As our Pub World Cup was so popular, we thought it only fair to introduce new categories and understand what the perception is of establishments throughout the district,” Mr Knight added.

Announcements of the next competitions will be made on the Worcestershire’s Vale and Spa Facebook page and website – www.valeandspa.co.uk.
