THE UNION Flag at Wychavon District Council’s headquarters is flying at half-mast to remember those who lost their lives in the Manchester terror attack.
The attack happened in the foyer of the Manchester Arena last night at the end of a concert by American singer Ariana Grande.
A suspected suicide bomber used an improvised explosive device which has killed 22 people and injured 59.
Wychavon District Council has lowered the Union Flag at the Civic Centre in Pershore to half-mast to remember the victims and those injured in the attack.
“Our flag is at half mast for those who lost their lives in Manchester. Our thoughts and prayers are with the friends and family affected,” Wychavon said.
Campaigning has also been suspended in the General Election following the attack.
Conservative parliamentary candidate for Mid Worcestershire, Nigel Huddleston, said: “In light of the terrorist attack in Manchester, my election campaigning is suspended. ”
“My thoughts & prayers are with the victims & families.”
Labour candidate Fred Grindrod said: “Terrible news from Manchester. My thoughts and prayers with all those who are affected. Our campaign will be suspended for today.
Green Party candidate Fay Whitfield said: “Very said to hear about the events in Manchester last night.
“Thoughts with those affected and thank you to our great emergency services.”
Evesham Town Council has also paid tribute to the 22 victims.
“Very sad to hear about the events in Manchester last night. Thoughts with those affected and thank you to our great emergency services,” the council said.
West Mercia Police have released a statement following last night’s attack.
In a joint statement the Chief Constable , Anthony Bangham, and the Chief Constable for Warwickshire Police, Martin Jelley said: “Last night’s atrocity at the Manchester Arena has shocked and saddened us all and the thoughts of the officers, staff, special constables and volunteers within West Mercia Police and Warwickshire Police are with those affected.
“It has been heart warming to see the people of Manchester come together to support each other and the emergency services. It is testimony to the overwhelming power of community spirit.
“Across the counties that we serve we regularly review our security measures and we will be doing this again today to ensure that all is being done to keep you and your families safe.
“It remains vital that the police and the public work together to combat terrorism.
