Fladbury woman to walk Pennine Way in memory of mum

A WOMAN from Fladbury will be taking on the challenge of walking the Pennine Way this August in honour of her late mum who died of a rare form of tissue cancer.

Catriona Janes will be tackling one of the UK’s best known and toughest trails to raise funds for Rowans Hospice, a Portsmouth-based charity that provided her family with compassionate care at its darkest hour.

The 431-kilometre (268-mile) trek spans from the Peak District in Derbyshire to the Scottish Borders is filled with steep climbs, rugged terrain, and unpredictable weather.

Catriona will be setting off on August 9 and hopes to finish it by August 24. The feat will be made a more meaningful tribute as her mum Diana was Scottish.

Although she will be walking the route alone, she will have the companionship of her faithful four-legged friend Colonel Bogey, a korthals griffon.

The pair have been striding up and down the Malvern Hills in preparation for the big event.

“Thanks to the amazing nurses at Rowans, we were able to fulfill mum’s wish of passing away at home, surrounded by her closest family. I will forever be grateful to them for giving us that gift of dignity and peace,” she said.

Catriona has so far raised £3,263 towards her £5k goal. Contributions can be made by going online to gofundme.com here.
