Five thousands join programme to beat diabetes

NEARLY 5,000 people in Worcestershire have been referred to a new programme aimed at tackling Type 2 diabetes.

The news comes as health bosses in Evesham and Pershore encourage people to act now to reduce their chances of developing the condition.

It coincides with Diabetes Prevention Week which highlights the initiative ‘Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme’ which offers support to people to help them build on their own motivation to make realistic changes to their lives, including what they eat and how active they are.

Access to the programme is via referral from a GP, for anyone who has had a blood test in the last 12 months showing they are at risk of Type 2 diabetes.

So far, in Worcestershire, there have been over 4,700 referrals and 140 groups have been set up across the county.

Anyone worried about any symptoms or if they feel they’re at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, they should speak to their GP or Practice Nurse.
