A NEW shared footpath and cycleway between Blackminster School and South Littleton is closer to fruition after work on the scheme began.

The Worcestershire County Council improvements began on Monday (July 11) and will take place in three stages between now and Monday, September 4 to minimise disruption.

Phase one of the works will take place within South Littleton village and will require temporary traffic signals. Work is expected to finish tomorrow (Friday)

Phase two will be carried out under a road closure on Station Road, starting on Monday (July 18) and until next Friday (July 22). The closure will be in place between 9am and 3pm each day and will be open to traffic outside of these times.

The third phase will take place between July 25 and September 4.

This phase will also require a road closure on the B4085 Station Road, which will be in place from 7.30am until 5pm each day, with the road open to traffic outside of these times.

Access to properties fronting the works will be maintained during the works. A signed diversion route will be provided throughout the duration of the works.

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times

Coun Mike Rouse, cabinet member for Highways and Transport at Worcestershire County Council, said: “These works are another example of the ongoing improvements being made by the council to enhance walking and cycling routes across the county.

“We’re aware of the local desire for these works to take place and I’m pleased that we’re now in a position to construct the foot/cycleway in this area.”
