FIREWORKS lit up a murky night’s sky in Evesham on Saturday (November 22) signalling the annual Christmas lights had been successfully switched on.
The event in Market Square was attended by hundreds of people who had wrapped up against the cold to witness a countdown conducted by the Mayor of Evesham, John Clatworthy.
Father Christmas put in an early appearance and a snow machine added to the festive feel.

Councillor Clatworthy is having a word with a special seasonal guest. s
“I was really impressed with the number of people who braved the elements and came out on such a miserable evening.
“The fact that Market Square was packed out with families just shows the amount of support the people have for their town.”
“My thanks to everyone who was involved in organising this event,” said Councillor Clatworthy.
Also attending was Phil Maclean, from Evesham Placeboard who added: “A big congratulations to everyone involved. The atmosphere was fantastic, with families coming together and enjoying the day.
“We were thrilled to be on stage to launch the Penguin Trail, which alongside the Christmas lights switch-on, aims to draw plenty of visitors into town during this crucial festive trading period, giving local businesses a real boost.”
