Fayre raises vital funds for Alzheimer's

A CHRISTMAS Fayre at Abbots Morton raised £213 for Alzheimer’s Research UK.

The fayre was the first to be held at Abbots Morton village hall and was very well attended, with 14 tables of merchandise on offer from a range of sellers.

The proceeds went to Alzheimer’s Research UK, which powers world class studies focusing on prevention, diagnosis and treatments for dementia.

In the UK alone there are 850,000 people living with dementia and this number is expected to rise to more than a million by 2025.

Zoe Baggott of Alzheimer’s Research UK, said: “We’re so grateful to Abbots Morton Village Hall for nominating Alzheimer’s Research UK as their chosen charity, and to everyone who came along to support the event.

“Dementia affects a huge proportion of the population – one in three people over 65 in the UK will die with some form of the condition.

“Fantastic fund-raising efforts like this will help us in our mission to bring an end to the fear, harm and heartbreak of dementia.”

Melanie Clarke, chair of the village hall committee said: ” We’re very pleased with how it went and our village hall funds also benefitted by £213.

“Hopefully we can make it an annual event.”
