AN ACCLAIMED Evesham impressionist and actor has been confirmed as the host for this year’s Wychavon ‘Intelligently Green Awards’.

Renowned comic Alistair McGowan, who was born in the town, has recently been chosen to host the awards, which celebrate green projects, activities and lifestyles across the district, at a glittering ceremony on Friday, June 17 at Pershore College.

With the deadline for nominations falling on Friday, April 22, Wychavon District Council wants to hear from green-fingered businesses, schools, individuals and community organisations.

Residents can nominate across five categories including individual and household, small businesses, larger businesses and public sector organisations, community groups and schools and colleges.

Mr McGowan said: “I’m delighted to be part of the awards and to be part of a scheme that celebrates all that is innovative and community driven when it comes to being environmentally friendly, especially as it’s all happening in a place that is very close to my heart.”

Mike Coe, who along with Lizzie Stoodley won in 2014 for their ‘Autonomous House’ in Cropthorne, said: “It was great all our hard work was recognised by the award, but most importantly we hope our award has gone on to show what can be achieved here in Wychavon.

“It’s about doing things that not only have a positive impact on the environment, but also have community or financial benefits. I encourage those people, organisations and businesses that are doing something positive for their community to enter the awards and share their own achievements with everyone.”
