Family wait for results of brave Oscar’s ‘magic’

BRAVE Oscar Saxelby-Lee and his family are facing a nervous wait to see if life-saving treatment in his fight against T-Cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia has been a success.

As residents across Worcestershire and Warwickshire slept, the courageous five-year was having the treatment in Singapore hailed as his ‘magic cells’ by proud mum Olivia Saxelby.

The family travelled to the Far East last month in search of the cure after efforts to tackle the disease in this country proved fruitless.

Together with mum Olivia Saxelby and dad Jamie Lee, Oscar has made the journey to the other side of the world after donor lymphocyte infusion (DLI) treatment in the UK failed to tackle the aggressive form of the disease.

After more than £500,000 was raised with support from the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust, Oscar and his parents headed to Singapore for Car-T therapy that uses the immune system to kill cancer cells.

It is specifically developed for individual patients and involves reprogramming their immune system cells, which are then used to target their cancer.

Writing on the Hand in Hand for Oscar Facebook page, Olivia said: “After much discussion round the table, and weighing out the risks and benefits, the Singapore team decided only a few hours ago we shall go ahead quickly.

“Emotions are way beyond words and tears are flowing. Please let this be Oscar’s cure and keep him safe,” she said.

The family should know whether the treatment has proved successful in the coming days and Olivia again paid tribute to all those who supported the family in their quest for a cure.

“Treasure every moment with loved ones, enjoy the company of others, make the most of every minute and tell the special people you love them,” she said.

“Thank you to each and every one of you for continuously going above and beyond to help us through this most difficult time.

“We couldn’t have got here without your kind hearted generosity and caring support.
