FAB...Relive Thunderbirds and Co with Gerry night

Rob George 22nd Jul, 2022   0

THUNDERBIRDS are Go this weekend as Pershore Number 8 Community Arts Centre hosts a FAB celebration of all things Gerry Anderson.

Number 8 is hosting a special screening of Gerry Anderson: A Life Uncharted followed by a question-and-answer session with his son Jamie and the film’s director Benjamin Field tomorrow (Saturday).

A screening of the cult classic feature film Thunderbirds Are Go will kick the day off at 3.30pm, followed by a talk from toy collector Rob Brown about his exhibition All Things Gerry Anderson at 5.30pm.

The screening of A Life Uncharted with Jamie and Benjamin will begin at 7.30pm.

A national treasure, Gerry Anderson’s career spanned 60 years, and he created some of the world’s most beloved children’s television series including Thunderbirds, Stingray, Captain Scarlet, Space:1999, Terrahawks, Space Precinct and many more.

Released a decade after his death, this incredibly revealing, emotionally charged and deeply personal documentary draws on exclusive access to more than 30 hours of previously unpublished interviews, in order to share the untold stories which defined his life and body of work.

In a fitting tribute to a television and film pioneer, and with permission from the Gerry Anderson estate, A Life Uncharted uses a wealth of intimate audio archive combined with deep fake technology to allow Gerry to tell his story on screen for the first time.

With additional new interviews and commentary from friends, family, and colleagues, audiences get unique access to an examination of Gerry Anderson’s life and his perspective on his tumultuous personal and business relationships.

From a poverty-stricken childhood raised by a Jewish father and an antisemitic mother, through a lifetime of personal struggles, this documentary maps his previously uncharted journey to puppetry pioneer, science fiction master and legendary creator.

Tickets for the screening of Thunderbirds cost £7 and £6.50 for concessions £6.50 while tickets for Mr Brown’s talk are free – though advance booking in recommended.

There will be a collection box at the event for the Gerry Anderson Tribute Fund supporting the Alzheimer’s Society.

Emma Bangham, Number 8 programme manager, said: “We are delighted to be welcoming Jamie Anderson and Benjamin Field to Number 8.

“It will be a real treat for Gerry Anderson fans and a great finale to our Thunderbirds Are FAB! Celebrations.”

Tickets for both screenings are on offer for £14 (£13 concessions)
