Evesham's Tree of Light to shine again in memory of loved ones

AN ANNUAL tradition that sees loved ones remembered at Christmas in Evesham is open for donations.

People can now contribute to the town’s Tree of Light campaign that results in a 100ft redwood by Workman Bridge lit up with hundreds of white bulbs.

Started in 1999 by Evesham Rotary Club, the scheme seeks to raise money to support charities and community groups and has since raised more than £300,000 that is distributed locally.

This year’s switch-on will be on Thursday, November 27 with an event from 6pm to 7.30pm at Workman Bridge.

This year the ceremony will be joined by the hundreds of families who are participating in the Evesham Lantern Parade from Abbey Park.

Chairman Oliver Lister said: “Through the generous donations of those remembering loved ones and support from businesses in the community, we are able to do so much good in the community.

“The Tree of Light fund has supported many, many charities over the years and will continue to do so. The tree is part of Evesham and part of our community life at Christmas.”

The names of those remembered will be displayed in a Book of Remembrance held at Evesham Library and the Rotary website.

The closing date for donations and entry into the Book of Remembrance is Sunday, December 7.

Visit eveshamrotaryclub.org to participate. There is a minimum donation of £5 per name.
