Evesham's MIU to close to aid COVID-19 fight

Evesham Editorial 26th Mar, 2020   0

EVESHAM’s Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) is set to close temporarily in the fight against the COVID-19 outbreak, health chiefs have revealed.

Due to the low number of patients attending the minor injury units across Herefordshire and Worcestershire and in order to ensure patient safety and enable key staff to be redeployed to support the COVID-19 response at the hospitals, the decision has been made to temporarily close the Waterside venue.

MIU’s in Tenbury and Ledbury will also close while those in Malvern and Bromsgrove will remain open.

The closure means the staff who currently work at the MIUs can be redeployed to other accident and emergency departments across the county.

A spokesperson said: “This is important and helps us to maintain safe staffing levels, due to increasing numbers of NHS staff who are self-isolating, due to the recent national advice.”

Patients who require urgent medical help are asked visit the MIU’s in Malvern and Bromsgrove or visit https://111.nhs.uk for more.
