A TEENAGER from Evesham has been recognised for his prodigious swimming talents.

Milton Xavier Yau was given the Future Star Award at the Black Country Heroes Awards 2025 on September 25, at a ceremony at Molineux Stadium, Wolverhampton.

The 13-year-old represents both City of Coventry and Evesham Swimming Clubs and in just three years, has become a 37-time County Champion, a nine-time West Midlands Regional Champion, and the West Midlands Open Water Champion.

He has held the 100m freestyle title for three consecutive years, and after winning the 50m freestyle in 27.29 seconds, Milton was ranked British number one in his age group.

He’s also a two-time recipient of the County Overall Best Performer Trophy, and proudly serves as junior captain for the West Midlands ESSA squad.

On receiving the award Milton gave a special thank you to all his coaches who have helped make him the swimmer he is today.

“None of my achievements would’ve been possible if it wasn’t for the time and care shown by the coaches throughout the last few years.

“I am forever grateful for your generosity, dedication and time, and all that you have taught me.

“It’s been an honour and an absolute pleasure working with all of you great people.

“From winning my first major regional and county titles three years ago when I was 10, to reaching the national finals this year at Ponds Forge, Sheffield.

“It certainly hasn’t been an easy journey, but every step was certainly worth it. I thank you all for your support and would love to have you all continuing alongside me with my swim journey,” Milton said.

Milton attends the De Montfort School in Evesham and enjoys playing the piano when not in training which takes about 17 hours per week.

His father Dennis added: “We’re so proud of what Milton has achieved.  All he set out to do was just to be a competent swimmer when he first started training at Evesham Swimming Club.

“We would never have thought he would one day be a National finalist, let  alone win the Future Star Award at the Black Country Heroes Awards evening.  We couldn’t be more happier for him.”
