Evesham students' trip to Croome as part of Rotary Club's End Polio campaign

STUDENTS from Prince Henry’s High School and The De Montfort School joined members of the Rotary Club of Evesham at the Walled Gardens at Croome Court to promote the End Polio campaign.

The pupils from Interact Clubs attended the event and admired the purple crocuses, a symbol of the campaign which reminds people how important it is that Polio – a serious worldwide problem 50 years ago – has almost been eradicated.

The students planted 5,000 purple crocus bulbs last October on World Polio Day.

Owners of the historic Walled Gardens Karen and Chris Cronin said their main objective was to attract interest and support from the community at large and to help re-educate adults and their children about the importance of sustainable and healthy living.

Rotarian Steve Davies said: “Purple is the colour of the End Polio campaign. Children have their little fingers painted purple when they have been immunised, and the purple crocuses will year after year make an important statement about the importance of health.”
