Evesham students get a taste of their professional industries in new project

Evesham Editorial 6th Jul, 2024   0

A GROUP of hair and photography students in Evesham have joined forces for a collaborative project to help them prepare for their industries.

Level 2 Hairdressing students and Year 1 Level 3 Digital Graphics and Photography students at Evesham New College created and captured a variety of prom-themed looks as part of their final assessments.

The hairdressing students were tasked with creating a look on their models which demonstrated the technical skills they have learnt, and took inspiration from everything from fairy tales and films to fashion from across the decades.

Photography students then worked to find the perfect backdrops to capture the models and took creative images to showcase the finished looks, building on skills they learned in a recent portrait photography module.

As well as choosing locations, the photography students had to consider lighting and focus in order to create a mood and to best capture the complex details of the hairstyles.

The photographs will soon be displayed at the college to highlight the skills of both sets of students and help advertise the courses.

Danielle Williams, hairdressing course manager at Evesham New College, which is part of college group WCG, was behind the project and said that it was a good way to help the students prepare for industry roles.

She said: “The collaborative project went very well and was enjoyed by all of the students.

“The collaboration helped introduce an industry scenario to both sets of assessments, with students needing to produce polished pieces of work which are strong enough to advertise our courses.”

Digital graphics and photography tutor Lucy Bergonzi said: “Working with the hairdressing students was a great opportunity for the photography students to take part in a live commission.

“The students rose to the challenge and they worked very professionally, producing some excellent photographs which they can be proud of.”
