Evesham site to be home of first SSE solar farm in UK

Rob George 20th Jan, 2022

ENERGY giant SSE has announced the purchase of its first solar plant in the United Kingdom.

The 30MW solar farm will be built at Littleton Pastures near Evesham. Once complete in late 2023, the 77-acre site will be capable of powering some 9,400 homes.

The developer Stark Energy sold SSE the project development rights for the solar project.

The scheme is part of the company’s £12.5billion investment programme to promote renewable energy and energy transformation.

“Today is a significant milestone for SSE with the acquisition of our first solar project and shows our serious ambitions in this market.” said, Richard Cave-Bigley, SSE Sector Director for Distributed Generation and Storage.

“We see solar as a key complementary technology to SSE’s existing portfolio of low carbon infrastructure such as wind and hydro and one that can power us towards net zero.“
