AN EVESHAM singer-songwriter has released his first EP.
Joe Lord, who goes under the name Lordless, took nine months to create the Loneliness is a Beautiful Thing EP.
It features five tracks, including Walked Away, Tequila Rose, Icon and MCIMC, as well as the title track.
Joe was born and bred in Evesham and attended St Mary’s Primary School, St Egwin’s Middle School and Prince Henry’s High School before heading off to the Leeds College of Music to study a BA Honours degree in popular music and songwriting.
He describes his music as ‘alternative pop’ or ‘dream pop’ and says it has a very 1980s sound.
“When I was growing up my mum and dad were always playing all sorts of music from Oasis and Paul Simon to the Bee Gees and I guess it just all rubbed off on me.”
Joe wrote the lyrics and music and produced the EP in his own self-made studio at home.
“I acquired quite a lot of music equipment at uni and brought it all back with me for my little set up.
“At university there was always so much going on around me that I didn’t have time to do much writing.
“When I got back I had the chance to sit down and think about the EP I wanted to create.”
The subjects he covers include his nights out and relationships while he was studying.
Since releasing the songs he said he had received some really positive feedback from people.
“To start with I just played the songs to close friends but then when it went on the music sites I had people contact me via Facebook and Instagram who I hadn’t seen for ages and some I had never met before – it has been really overwhelming to hear so many people say they enjoyed listening to my music.”
Along the way Lordless has also got to play some prestigious venues, as a support act at the 02 in Birmingham and at the Second City’s renowned Sunflower Lounge.
“It’s been incredible and I just want to do more and more,” he said.
Joe plans to spend the summer ‘getting his music out there’ as much as possible and recording some videos for the songs he has created.
