FISHING mania is set to descend on Evesham this Bank Holiday weekend with thousands of fans from all over the globe set to visit the town to enjoy the country’s biggest angling event.

This year’s ever popular Evesham Angling Festival returns to the waters between Saturday (August 23) and Bank Holiday Monday (August 25).

Three days of fiercely competitive angling action gets underway on Saturday when dozens of keen competitors will compete in the Evesham Championship between 11am and 4pm.

On Sunday (August 24) more competitive action will see visitors hooked when competitors compete in the annual Wychavon Championship.

And the final day (Monday) sees some of the UK’s best anglers take part in the festival’s flagship event – The Match Fishing Team Championship which will see 14 teams of five compete for the prestigious angling title.

Away from the fishing action, enthusiasts can browse around dozens of stalls showing the latest rods, poles, floats and lines as well as family fun attractions on Crown Meadow. There will also be a craft fayre, fun fair and beer tents by the River Avon.

Staff at The Evesham Hotel are also gearing up the three-day extravaganza with head chef Paul Napper preparing a special fish-frenzy menu to tickle visitors tastepuds throughout the festival.

David Field, Evesham Hotel general manager said: “Paul and his team are really looking forward to tempting guests to some outstanding seafood and fish dishes this weekend.

“With the town playing host to so many great festivals throughout the year, it’s an opportunity to showcase the hotel and restaurant to a national and international audience.”

Evesham Festival organiser, Dean Rothery added: “To see local businesses like the Evesham Hotel support this event is fantastic. I’m sure visitors to the restaurant will be well and truly hooked and enjoy some lovely food.”
