Evesham River Festival makes a splash

EVESHAM’S River Festival returned to the Vale in spectacular fashion as it put on a sensational display of boats big and small.

The River Avon was flooded with visitors and water activities on Saturday (July 11), with a special medieval theme in recognition of the anniversary of The Battle of Evesham and Simon de Montfort.

The annual event saw Vale residents pack along the Avon to celebrate and marvel at the large variety of boats that came from all over the UK to parade their spectacular lights and colour.

Live music entertained the crowd all day with Evesham artists taking to the stage and a selection of beer tents and food stalls provided refreshments throughout.

Event organiser Doug Payne said: “This year had ‘on water’ attractions such as, the Welsh Newfoundland Activity Group Rescue Dogs, search and rescue demonstrations by South Worcestershire Lifeguards, boat handling competitions and the Illuminated boat parade took place prior to the firework finale.”

The Evesham River Festival committee was supported by Evesham Town Council, Wychavon District Council, Tesco, Sankey Marine, Avon Navigation Trust, The Fleece Inn, South Worcestershire Lifeguards, Evesham Sea Cadets, Evesham Hotel, Wood Norton Hotel and Hidcote Manor.

Special thanks has been given to Cobwebs Restaurant, Subway, Charingworth Manor, Mill Dene Garden and Sudeley Castle for donating prizes.
