PRIMARY school children from Evesham are getting to learn about construction thanks to a partnership with two neighbouring housebuilders.

Pupils from St Andrew’s CE School in Hampton are embarking on a programme of activities with Stonebond and Rooftop Housing, who are currently building 67 new affordable homes in the area.

Children from years one to six are participating in a range of events including site visits, shrub planting, a design competition and burying a time capsule in a new public area of open space.

The project has been designed to align with the curriculum for the coming year and provide pupils with experiences that meet their educational needs.

Head teacher Joel Turvey said: “As a community school, our pupils want to feel informed about how things are being developed.

“We are really keen to give them authentic opportunities to learn, and this programme is both local and meaningful to us and really adds to the learning in the school.”

The programme kicked off with a school assembly where Stonebond and Rooftop explained more about the life cycle of housebuilding, including health and safety and sustainable design.

Adam Coates, Stonebond’s technical director helped develop the programme.

“Building new homes is also about engaging the community, creating opportunities for people to interact and benefit from new development.

“We hope the partnership gives the children plenty of opportunities to learn more about construction, both inside and outside of the classroom.

“We can already see how engaged the children are, which is fantastic,” he added.
