AN EVESHAM opticians is set to take on a heartfelt CPR challenge to raise funds for first responders.

To mark Heart Month in February, the team at Specsavers is taking on a gruelling four-hour sponsored CPR-a-thon in aid of  Vale of Evesham Community First Responders.

Taking place on Valentine’s Day (February 14), between 10am and 2pm, team members will take turns performing continuous CPR on a practice dummy in support of the volunteer group that provides life-saving medical care in the critical minutes before an ambulance arrives.

Members of the public are invited to stop by the locally owned and run store on Bridge Street to cheer on the team or even try the challenge themselves.

The first responders will be on hand throughout the event with extra practice dummies  to coach anyone who wants to learn the life-saving skill, in exchange for a small donation.

“We’ve been proud supporters of the Community First Responders for a long time and wanted to do something extra special for Valentine’s Day,” store director Anna Blyth.

“By taking on this four-hour challenge, we’re not just raising money but ensuring our team has the skills to act in an emergency.

“Performing non-stop CPR is going to be a huge physical test for us, so we’re hoping the local community will get behind us to cheer us on and help support this incredible local charity.”

Vale of Evesham Community First Responders volunteers provide life-saving interventions in Evesham, Pershore, Broadway and the surrounding villages.

Working in partnership with the West Midlands Ambulance Service, they receive training, allowing them to offer emergency medical care until paramedics arrive on scene.
