AN EVESHAM police officer has been awarded Wychavon District Council’s annual police trophy for her work in helping to protect vulnerable children.
Karen Kempton, PCSO for Safer Schools Evesham, was first nominated for the award after she identified a number of young people in the town who were at risk of significant harm.
She then worked with police colleagues to effectively manage the risks and protect the vulnerable children through partnership working.
The dedicated officer has taken personal responsibility to develop her own understanding of vulnerability and her and partner agencies responsibility in effectively identifying and reducing risk. This has given Karen the confidence to provide the ‘voice of the child’ at multi-agency meetings and successfully negotiate partner agency interventions to successfully manage risk.
Chairman of Wychavon District Council, Coun Frances Smith, said: “It was an immense pleasure to present Karen with this award. She has clearly done a huge amount of positive work with young people that have made them safer as a result and that is great to see.”
Karen’s policing Commander Superintendent Kevin Purcell said: “This is a richly deserved award.”Karen is a fine officer who can always be relied upon to deliver a high level of service in what is a very important area of our work.
“I am grateful that Wychavon continue to celebrate and support policing as this award always means so much to our team.”
