Something to Think About

Evesham Editorial 4th Feb, 2024   0

SAILING from the Northwest of Scotland in July 1773, 207 people boarded the ship named ‘The Hector’ bound for the New World, with the promise of land and property they could only dream of in Scotland.

After a rough voyage which took a lot longer than anticipated and with 20 deaths they reached their destination, but instead of the promised fertile ground, all that lay before them was acres and acres of trees.

Such a disappointment after all the dangers and heartaches of the journey.

There will have been many times in our lives when we have been promised something and, in the end, we have been so badly let down by those who have made the promise.

For three years the Disciples of Jesus Christ followed Him with the expectation that He would be with them for many years and they would be part of a great movement from God.

At first when Jesus was killed on the Cross, that dream seemed to just simply fold away in front of them and they were left alone with no hope.

But unlike those people on ‘The Hector’, within three days as Jesus Christ rose from the dead, the reality of why all the happenings of that first Easter, took place, they realised that the promise was taking place in their lives.

The promise of ‘New Life’ in Jesus Christ is as real today as it was all those years ago.
