A WORCESTERSHIRE carer has been honoured in the ‘team member of the year’ category at the annual Bluebird Care Awards.

Mel Fenton, lead care supervisor at Bluebird Care Worcester and Wychavon was selected from more than 10,000 Bluebird Care staff across the UK and Ireland.

She was one of five finalists in three categories for the awards at the world-famous Fortnum and Mason in London.

Judges heard how Mel will go above and beyond to be there for people who need care at home. Her dedication to the community extends to her days off.

She has recently taken home washing to do for customers, loaned a TV to a live-in carer, and organised for a customer’s dog to be groomed.

Mel received a trophy and certificate along with her fellow nominees to mark her accomplishments.

She said:

“Putting a smile on someone’s face is what this job is all about – whether that’s my customers or my amazing team.

“It’s about being there for people when they’re going through something. To be named as a finalist out of so many incredible colleagues for doing something I love is just incredible.

David Benjamin, director of Bluebird Care Worcester and Wychavon, said:

“This recognition is very well deserved.

“She has introduced several ideas which have enabled us to go above and beyond to provide the best care to those we support. These nclude a new care device check and enhanced observations for the team.

“Mel is a credit to Bluebird Care, and she embodies the values of kindness and high standards we promote.”
